The National Super Alliance (NASA) handed Rehab Ndabuki a recommendation as she seeks to deputize Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko ‘in the spirit of the handshake’.
Sonko was to make known his choice of a deputy on Friday but had to beat a hasty retreat. He alleged that the ODM party leader Raila Odinga made a follow-up call to a letter that had been sent by NASA CEO Norman Magaya asking Sonko to nominate their candidate.
Sonko promised to consult his party bosses Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto on the matter.
Ordinarily, a deputy governor is supposed to come from the Jubilee party which won the governor’s seat.
Ndabuki is a Nairobi politician who ran for the Women Representative seat in Nairobi on a Wiper ticket during the 2017 elections. She was third after Esther Passaris and Rachel Shebesh.
The soft-spoken lady ventured into politics through Maendeleo ya Wanawake movement where she was elected the vice chairperson – Nairobi chapter.
She also worked as the senior programme officer at Plan International, a charity organisation.
During the 2017 elections, Ndabuki clashed with ODM after it emerged the party was favouring its candidate during NASA rallies in Nairobi despite both ODM and Wiper being affiliate parties in the alliance.
During one rally, organisers made Esther Passaris and Edwin Sifuna (ODM candidates for Women Rep and Senator) as key speakers while ignoring Ndabuki and Ramesh Chandra (Wiper’s candidate for Women Rep and Senate respectively).
