Peter Tabichi, a teacher from Nakuru County who won the 2019 Global Teacher Prize at a ceremony held in Dubai has revealed how he plans to spend Sh100 million.
The high school teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Nakuru, was named the best teacher in the world for his contributions and will receive the $1 million prize (Sh100 million).
Tabichi has revealed that he will use part of his prize to build a computer laboratory at his school in Nakuru, which is one of the poorly-resourced school in the remote parts of Njoro.
The philanthropic teacher said that he will also sponsor the education for some of the needy and bright students in the area so they can continue with their studies.
As expected, the 36-year-old teacher who gives away 80 percent of his monthly salary to help poor students in his school who cannot afford uniforms and books said he will also help needy students from other schools.
The Physics and Mathematics teacher said he will partner with various stakeholders to assist in improving the infrastructure of his school especially in the science department to encourage more students take science seriously.
“I want to build a computer laboratory at my school. Am planning to start an agricultural project to benefit the community. I also want to sponsor bright and needy students as well as programmes to motivate fellow teachers.”
“It was almost unbelievable, it almost sounded like a dream when my name was called out as the winner. It is all God’s doings,” said Tabichi as quoted by Standard.
