Joseph Mburu of the New Vision Party becomes the surprise horse in the race which currently seems like a contest between former area lawmakers.

As things stand now, the seat is likely to go to either immediate former MP Chris Karan whose reelection was annulled by the Supreme Court n December and former MP David Ochieng.

The less-known Mburu's bid comes as a shocker in a region dominated by members of the Luo community, and a bedrock of the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In his recent appearance before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission through his representative, the hopeful maintained that he has sufficient support to win.

He maintained that he has relatives in the constituency who will propagate his victory, even after unsuccessfully vying for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections.

Mburu is also promising to among others, take residents to study and live in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia and a monthly salary of Ksh10, 000 for every adult.

The aspirant has also told residents to expect six factories in his first tenure once they elect him to the office.

Mburu has as well promised to furnish each family with a gas cooker before 2022, reports the Standard.

Karan will be vying on the ODM ticket, Ochieng will be seeking to regain his power on his Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party.

Other candidates include Brian Onyango of the ThirdWay Alliance Party and William Sino who is an independent candidate.

The by-election is set for April 5.
