ODM party leader Raila Odinga should retire from active politics because he has hit the retirement age, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has said.
Maangi argued that the former Prime Minister should declare publicly his retirement and concentrate on his new role at the AU.
"AU appointed Raila because they saw his wide knowledge on democracy may go to a waste since he has been losing presidency. I am urging him to retire from active politics in this country and focus more on his new roles at the AU," he said.
According to Maangi, if Raila continues to participate in elections, opposition will never clinch Presidency.
He called on politicians allied to opposition especially ODM party to request Raila to go home in peace.
"Leaders allied to opposition should not be scared of telling Raila to retire. We must pressure him to go home so that youthful politicians can take over the role of opposition politics in this country," noted Maangi.
Maangi is set to contest for the Kisii County gubernatorial seat in 2022 to succeed his boss Governor James Ongwae.
The second term deputy governor was among chief campaigners for Raila across Kisii and Nyamira Counties in 2013 and 2017.
But since the handshake between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, Maanga has hosted Ruto often in the two counties.
