The decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to walk strictly within the confines of the law in the war against graft will ensure everyone gets justice, DP William Ruto has said.
During his candid address to parliament, Uhuru said he will not victimise state officers based on 'media narratives and vigilante justice', adding that the rule of law should prevail.
“I’ve been under pressure on whom am I sacking. But I must caution that the pursuit of the corrupt will be undertaken within the law. It will not be taken through vigilante justice and pitchfork protest,” the President said.
In 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked six ministers to step aside over corruption allegations but none of them was found culpable after the investigation by authorities.
Speaking at Citizen TV on Wednesday, Ruto said the Jubilee government is committed to fighting corruption but it will always be guided by the rule of law.
"Those claiming that they are helping Jubilee to fight corruption are lying. That's part of our agenda. I am proud of the president because he said corruption will be fought within the law and not media narratives," he said.
Ruto bashed ODM leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of hijacking the war against corruption. He said the opposition had no role in the graft purge, adding that Jubilee had equipped government agencies.
Asked why he was not comfortable with DCI George Kinoti's approach in the graft war, Ruto said he wants the war fought within the law without victimisation.
