Rotich was picked by Governor Hillary Barchok to assume his position, which he held after the death of Governor Joyce Laboso.

Barchok was sworn-in as governor in September, a month after Laboso's death. Dr Laboso succumbed to cancer in August.

Rotich tendered his resignation to the clerk of the county assembly Isaac Kitur on Friday.

Bomet Members of County Assembly, who he has been leading for the past three years, approved his name as Deputy Governor last week.

Governor Hillary Barchok will grace Rotich’s oath of office ceremony at Bomet Green Stadium that will be presided over by Kericho High Court Judge George Dulu.

While defending Rotich's appointment, Barchok said the outgoing speaker will bring the necessary experience to run county affairs.

“A deputy is like a life partner, you make a wrong choice you are doomed and that is why I decided to settle on someone we can work with without problem,” said Barchok.

However, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Bomet chairperson Sally Kirui on Sunday said the choice had rolled back gains made in mainstreaming women leadership.

“We had made big strides in women leadership in Bomet but now Governor Barchok has pushed us to back to the drawing board," Kirui said.
