Addressing journalists in Machakos town on Thursday, Kalembe said the massive corruption involving deliberate inaccuracies in the billing system is derailing President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda on industrialisation.

"The president has done all he could to ensure that Kenyans are connected to electricity, however, the corruption in the Kenya Power Company is derailing all his efforts," said Ndile.

He observed that 50 per cent of the connected houses have no power, adding that it was disconnected following huge bills which some residents can't pay.

"Like me, I have a debt of Sh1.5 million and when Kenya Power is questioned they say some tenants have not paid their bills," he said.

He said that irregular billing from the power company is proof that something is not right.

"Sometimes you are given a bill of Sh200 then 2,000 then 20,000 and next 600. The common mwananchi is really suffering," he said.

He said the high bills have caused people to shy away from opening industries.

The outspoken politician blamed the corruption cases on the monopoly enjoyed by the power company.

"Having one power company has enslaved Kenyans to tolerate bad services because there's no other option. It's like that era when there was only one mobile service provider you wouldn't argue with them or else you would be disconnected," he said.

He said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) should move swiftly and probe serious graft allegations in the energy sector.
