The Deputy President William Ruto can use the latest opening in Ugenya to further extend his hand into opposition leader and his main rival Raila Odinga's zones.

The latter has been trying to encroach into Raila's zones around the country ahead of their expected battle for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.

And though the Jubilee Party has not fielded any candidate for the vacant Ugenya parliamentary seat, he can cleverly use the opportunity to further weaken the former Premier.

On Raila's Orange party side is current MP Chris Karan whose 2017 election was annuled in December and on the other is former MP David Ochieng', a critic of ODM.

Whether or not he is close to Ochieng' as has been repeatedly alleged by area Senator James Orengo, Ruto should consider using Ochieng' for his own benefit.

Be it bankrolling him or any other thing, which is not illegal anyway, he can rip a big deal with an allied force holding the seat which is only minutes away from Raila's Bondo home.

By so doing, he will have a higher platform and a helping hand that could see him garner more votes in the constituency and the larger Siaya county in 2022.

This will make it hard for Raila to once again cry could and cite rigging, as the DP will easily point out that he even managed to beat or equal him in his own bedrock.

This will also trim the powers and discourage Raila's area allies led by Orengo who are very likely to lead Chris Karan's campaigns and Raila's come 2022.

With a discouraged lot on Raila's side, the DP will have it easier campaigning and even beating Raila should he put up a strong team to lead his campaigns.

And Raila has since confirmed his fears in the race and on Saturday during a funeral service in the area urged area voters not to embarrass him by not supporting his candidate.
