After a long struggle, 25 Nyamira County League teams are set to do better after receiving a donation of two balls each courtesy of Nyamira FC Chairman Luthers Mokua.
Speaking on Sunday during the handing over of the quality balls, Luthers Mokua, who doubles as Wazito CEO, an NSL club, said the move was precipitated by his desire to nurture talents.
"Am out to support local talents and I picked Nyamira because its my home. I realized there is a big gap when it comes to nurturing of football talents and that is why am here today," said Mokua.
Mr Mokua, who is eyeing for FKF Nyamira County chairman position, said local teams are crippled in a way for they cannot access what they need in terms of infrastructure and other basic needs.
"I have come to help this where I can. I will do this all through. Together with FKF branch managers, we will make sure that we nurture these talents both Boys and Girls who are talented to be able to realize their dreams," he added, stressing on the need to have accessible infrastructure.
Further, he said: "We have fields in Nyamira that can be renovated to assist our teams. We request the county government of Nyamira to set aside some funds to at least build some goal posts and just normal perimeter fence."
Mr Luthers Mokua, who was the chief guest of the event, pledged to support grassroot football. He also supported county league clubs by paying participation fees for all the clubs.
Nyamira County League team managers expressed their satisfactory and thanked Mokua for coming to their rescue after a very long struggle.
"We have actually been lacking this kind of support. Mokua has shown what our leaders cannot do. He has decided to come home and support our youth. This is a great move and we believe we are going far," Said Evans Onderi, Riakimai FC manager.
