Algeria's dangerman Riyad Mahrez, who plies his trade in the English Premier League for Manchester City, has weighed in on his country's African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.

Speaking to BeiN Sports, Mahrez confessed to not knowing much about Kenya who are participating in their first African Cup of Nations in 15 years.

"We do not know much about Kenya. We didn't face them before. But we watched their matches and we played against similar teams during friendly games and we will give everything to win the match, " Riyad Mahrez said according to BeiN Sports.

The Desert Foxes will slug it out against the Stars at the 30, June Stadium later tonight at 2300 hrs Kenyan time as the two teams kick off their respective campaigns for continental glory.

Riyad Mahrez shoulders the responsibility of leading Algeria in the AFCON tournament.

Given Algeria's pedigree, football pundits consider them one of the favourites.

Kenya will be depending on midfielder Victor Wanyama, who plays in the English Premier League (EPL)for Tottenham Hotspurs who nearly won the 2019 UEFA Champions League.

Michael Ogada Olunga who showed great promise in the Harambee Stars qualification is also being seen as a threat.
