Raila failed to upload pictures of himself alongside Deputy President William Ruto while the DP uploaded images of himself trading banter with the veteran opposition leader.

This in spite of the two political adversaries being seen sitting together and at various moments trading banter.

Was the person who uploaded the images on Raila's page deliberate in not featuring the DP or was it just oversight?

Serious political pundits would aver that it was not an oversight but a deliberate choice.

In not uploading pictures of himself alongside Ruto, Raila was sending a political message that he and Ruto are on different paths, that they are adversaries.

Posting the images with Ruto would have given the deputy president an advantage, albeit a slight one.

Raila's supporters are anti-Ruto and that is what the ODM supremo wants things to remain.

In today's world where pictures on social media carry a lot of political significance and can be interpreted anyhow, posting pictures that tend to show that they are treading the same path with the DP would be a risk that he would rather not take.

In all his political career that spans decades, Raila has shown himself to be a shrewd political operator and this was a demonstration of that shrewdness.
