A total of one hundred and twenty-seven traffic police officers have been axed from the National Police Service (NPS) after they failed a vetting process.
According to NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi, the said officers were fired after they failed to explain financial transactions that included Mpesa transfers with fellow officers as well as matatu operators.
Also highlighted was that they received money from transporters and breakdown service operators as well as being caught with cases of professional misconduct.
Among those dismissed are 50 from Rift Valley, 36 from Coast, 23 from Western, and 18 from Nyanza.
Kavuludi added that 72 of the 904 officers vetted are pending concclusive investigations while 26 were sacked after deciding not to be vetted.
"Unlike previously when only an average 4 per cent of officers vetted were found to be unsuitable, this time the number has shot up to 14 per cent,” Kavuludi said.
“Sufficient mechanisms have been put in place by the service to monitor officers who have been removed from the service to ensure they remain law-abiding citizens,” he added.
