Barely hours after Vice Chancellors dismissed the list of 133 courses deemed useless, the Commission for University Education (CUE) chief executive Mwenda Ntarangwi has now assured students that the list is being reviewed and there is no reason for panic.

An earlier report had indicated that 26 universities are offering several unapproved courses, which is a waste of time and money on the part of students.

Ntarangwi has said that the commission will engage different stakeholders in discussion to see whether the courses can be approved.

He noted that some of the institutions were yet to submit some courses for approval, which made it difficult for the commission to address the matter exhaustively before the listing was undertaken.

Prof Ntarangwi insisted that the commission uses the data provided by the universities when it comes to accrediting them

“We used our standards and calculated capacities for programmes against the information the universities declared,” said Mr Ntarangwi, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The unapproved courses cut across all disciplines ranging from geography, counselling psychology, political science, and community development.

Students who were pursuing courses deemed to be useless had been left at crossroads following the revelations.

The students will now pursue the courses with the hope that they are approved before they complete them.

The commission has advised students to check information on course approval on their official website.
