Commuters forced themselves into a ferry by jumping over the waiting bay walls after they were delayed for about an hour at the Likoni channel. This is after one of the biggest and also the newest ferry developed a mechanical hitch on Monday.
Since Monday, only three ferries have been in operation at the Likoni channel.
MV Jambo developed a mechanical problem on Monday morning and was withdrawn from operation.
The channel is currently being served by only three ferries, MV Nyayo, MV Harambee and MV Kwale, which is the main reason why motorists and commuters are forced to wait longer than what they are used to.
The Likoni crossing point being the largest, is usually served by at least four ferries as MV Likoni serves at the small at Mtongwe cross point.
MV Jambo has never served more than two months without developing mechanical hitches despite being new. The ferry and MV Kilindini are being working on.
Kenya Ferry Services said commuters will be served by three ferries at Likoni and one at Mtongwe.
