Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will be approaching Jubilee under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta to back Wiper Party MP Julius Mawathe to retain his Embakasi seat if his win is nullified.
Speaking during the third anniversary of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s father Mzee Gideon Mbuvi Kioko in Machakos County on Saturday, Kalonzo said he will rally the electorate behind MP Julius Mawathe if he loses the appeal.
Kalonzo said though he shares a cordial relationship with ODM candidate Sumra Irshad, he will be standing with Jubilee this time round.
“I have a lot of respect for my brother Sumra Irshad, but because he will be running on ODM, we will work with Jubilee to support Mawathe. It is as simple as that. I will be approaching Jubilee for that purpose. So I want you to be prepared,” Kalonzo said.
The former Vice President added that he had wished the two leaders sat down and agreed on the candidate they would back for the post to avoid bitterness.
ODM and Wiper parties have continued to rival over parliamentary seats since the formation of NASA coalition.
Kalonzo has, however, maintained his loyalty to his party candidates by backing them in different contests.
