President Uhuru Kenyatta's continued closeness with opposition leader Raila Odinga is a thorn in the flesh to allies and supporters of Deputy President William Ruto.
This is with the consideration that Raila is currently considered the main obstacle on Ruto's way as both are apparently eyeing the presidential seat.
Though both Uhuru and the former Premier have made it clear that their unity has no political basis, pundits and Kenyans cannot help but link it to the 2022 polls.
This is obviously an unwelcome move to Ruto's Rift Valley bedrock which houses most of his supporters who are already anticipating his presidency.
It is worth noting that Uhuru and his allies have repeatedly pledged to back DP Ruto's bid for 2022, in repayment to his support both in the 2013 and 2017 polls.
His latest move, therefore, though good for the entire nation, will see him observed as an ungrateful traitor who is now dining with the rival of the man who made him.
The region is also aware that with the two together, judging by their political influence, their preferred candidate is the most likely to win, and would rather Uhuru sticks to Ruto.
The worst part is that Uhuru has kept going despite obviously having been told by his handlers about the picture his moves are portraying, his relentlessness proving that he actually does not care.
This can only worsen with time should the duo embark on their joint national tours as a demonstration of their commitment to ensuring national cohesion.
To the Kalenjin nation, this will be a campaign to realize their hidden agenda, and probably a plan to sideline Ruto who also seems not to fit in their 'political dynasties' club.
And this, obviously, makes the region very angry and regretful.
Actually, it is very likely that they will meet empty stadiums should they take their unity campaigns to Ruto's home ground.
