Addressing the press in Tala town on Monday, Matungulu Cooperative's deputy chairman Antony Mutunga said the members are slow in developing their land.

Mutunga said only 20 percent of the members had shown signs of developing their parcels of land.

He told the members to avoid letting their land lie idle and instead either grow vegetables or put up structures in the land.

"We have River Athi nearby practicing horticulture by some of the members will earn them cash, or construct on the land, don't let the land stay idle," Mutunga said.

Mutunga said residents who are not interested in farming or developing their property can lease the land to nearby residents who will use the land at a fee.

"Some people say the land is very far they should lease the land to interested residents living nearby who would want a piece of land to work on," Mutunga said.

Mutunga said the members shouldn't complain about the parcels of land they had been given, stating that even the rocky areas can earn the members a lot of cash.

"I'm aware there are rocky areas in the land but don't despair, work on it and remove ballast for sale and earn an extra coin it's all about improvising the share you get," he said.

Mutunga said that a lot of coffee farmers are giving up on coffee farming due to losses.

He said the money farmers earn by selling their coffee is not much compared to the expenses they incur in their farming.
