The High Court in Nakuru has summoned a police officer investigating the murder of a university student in the county.
Alex Muinde was summoned after prosecutor Amos Chigiti moved to court seeking orders to have the officer explain why he has not bonded witnesses in the case.
Muinde is the investigating officer in the case against 24-year-old Edmond Ruto who is accused of killing his girlfriend, Cynthia Chelang'at.
The accused is alleged to have killed the 22-year-old who was pursuing a course in Agriculture at the Egerton University on February 19 at Njokerio estate in Njoro, Nakuru County.
Mr Chigiti said the prosecution cannot present the items which witnesses will make reference to in court because they are yet to be availed after they were forwarded to the Government Chemist for analysis.
“The investigating officer has not been able to summon witnesses and some items were forwarded to the Government Chemist are yet to be availed,” said the prosecutor as quoted by the Standard.
The court heard that the accused who is a student at Egerton University allegedly killed his girlfriend after they had an altercation in Njoro where the two lived together.
The case will be mentioned on September 16, 2019.
