Deputy President William Ruto ally Charles Keter has received a lashing from a section of leaders over his remarks on the recent arrest of Kenya power bosses.
13 top managers at the Kenya Power were arrested over suspected involvement in a scam that siphoned public coffers.
While making changes to the body, Keter, who is the Energy Cabinet Secretary, criticized the manner in which police carried out the swoop on the suspects.
He likened the arrest to the 1993 plane crash of the Zambia football team.
“To me is like when Zambia lost its national team, we have lost the best,” Keter said.
“When you go to a house on midnight on Friday, anyway I am calling on police to be humane on how it arrests people,” he added.
NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi hit out at the CS saying he behaves like a suspect.“He should be enjoined in the case because he seems to know who is guilty,” Mudavadi said.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who of late has clashed with the DP’s allies, said no one is special in the war on corruption.
“Keter seems to be suggesting that people suspected to be corrupt are special and different from people suspected of other crimes,” Ngunjiri said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by MP Opiyo Wandayi.
"He should resign. He cannot be sitting in the Cabinet while lamenting the Government's actions. I expect the President to read the riot act and call his Cabinet to order. Those who do not support him should be fired,” Wandayi said as quoted by Standard.
Keter, however, said he has confidence in the new team that took over from the suspended bosses.
"I believe you have what it takes to drive this company forward," Keter said.
