Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto over utterances he made on a public function.
This comes after DP Ruto was captured on a video in Murang'a county saying that behaviours of members of the Luo community were well known and therefore should not be 'entertained' in government.
Embakasi MP Babu Owino shared the video on his Twitter handle on Monday.
The remarks were seen to be referring to ODM leader Raila Odinga who has been close to President Uhuru Kenyatta since the famous March 9 handshake.
"These people who are giving us so many stories, we know them and they are well known for destroying. If they are not breaking political parties, then they are destroying houses, if not houses they are uprooting railways and if not railways then they are splitting friends, why should we entertain them?," Ruto says in the video.
The Rarieda MP now claims the utterances amounted to hate speech.
Speaking during an interview at NTV on Tuesday, Amollo said that the remarks shouldn't be tolerated.
"In my view referring to a community as people who demolish houses, who uproot railways lines and who should not be tolerated is hate speech," said the ODM MP.
However, Kericho senator who sat in the panel Aaron Cheruiyot defended the DP's statement claiming it had been exaggerated.
Cheruiyot said it was unfair for leaders from the Luo community to try and make the statement look like it was meant for the entire community.
"The deputy president's remarks were not targeted at the whole Luo community. Where in that particular clip does the deputy president particularly refer to Luos? He never said anything of the sort," he said.
