Most of you have experienced a situation at night when you cannot sleep. One keeps on turning in bed and staring at the clock wondering when would the sun rise? Lack of sleep could be due to many reasons such as sickness, anxiety, stress or you have no enough sleep. One would also wake up three in the morning and keep wondering when morning is coming. Here are some of the things you can do if you cannot sleep other than staring at the clock.

Start by thinking positive things only

Negative thoughts such as ‘I am going to be tired tomorrow’ ‘I won’t get time to sleep again it is too late’ and so many will make you even be more worried and you won’t get sleep. Try thinking positive like ‘I still have time for sleep’ and calm down as it helps your body relax and you might probably go to sleep.

Pick only one thing to focus your mind on- focusing on one thing such as a song probably or reciting something would be very important to relax your brain as long as you will not recite the words ‘I cannot sleep’ severally. Too many stuff would keep you very awake. 

Adjust the temperature around you

Ensure that you are neither too hot nor too cold. Keep yourself in a temperature that soothes your body to sleep and tells your brain that you are tired it is time to sleep!

Listen to very soft music or take a book probably and read in a very dim light- this also helps calm your mind in a way that you might even fall asleep in your book!

Stretch and relax from head to toe without getting out of bed

This also helps the body to relax plus the muscles and do not strain that much.

Keep your mind away from things that are worrying your mind such as stress or anxiety by watching a good movie, browsing the internet, playing games and even chatting. You will eventually get tired and in the process fall asleep.
