The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) has been put on the spot over procurement queries in an audit report released by Auditor General Edward Ouko for the year ending June 2018.
The report, which has been tabled in parliament shows that the institution of higher learning spent Sh4.5 million to purchase five television sets.
The management has been faulted by contravening Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005 in the process as per the report tabled by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.
The report indicates that the institution ordered for the delivery of 70-inch size television sets but the supplier brought 65 inch-size yet the cost remained the same even after the changes.
In a report by Auditor General Edward Ouko a single television set was purchased at Sh910,689, which totaled to Sh4,553,448 for the six television sets.
The report also indicates that the matter has since been taken to court. The university management has also been faulted for not having a clear policy on debt recovery with Sh43 million going unpaid at the time of auditing.
“A review of the matter in the current year indicates that the matter is pending in court,” reads the audit report, as seen by Standard.
The management is yet to respond to the audit queries.
