A section of Kibera youths are now siding with their MP Ken Okoth in his proposal to have marijuana (bhang) legalized.
According to the youths, legalising bhang will create job opportunities for them.
The youths argue that bhang is not a hard and dangerous drug and that the government should legalise its use.
“The idea by MP Okoth is timely and we ask other MPs to support him,” Abel Wambulwa, a bodaboda operator in Kibera said.
Wambulwa said that bhang has been legalised in other countries and the same should be the case in Kenya.
“legalising bhang will help the government in terms of revenue and boost development," Lameck Otieno, a movie shop attendant said.
Otieno claimed that bhang is good for the human body, adding that it is time for the government legalised it.
“We will support our MP in pushing for legalisation of marijuana even if it means staging demos for the proposal to be heard,” Stephen Manyara, a waiter at a local hotel in Kibera said.
Manyara said that thousands of young people are rotting in prions because of bhang.
He said that the drug is not bad, adding that those in prison because of bhang should be released.
