Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale threw his weight behind Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion on the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) that has been subject to heated public debate.
Speaking on KTN's Point Blank show, the outspoken politician supported Sossion's call for constructive dialogue, saying that there were issues that needed to be thrashed out.
"That's why I am saying Sossion is right when he speaks to the need for further consultations, wider and deeper consultations between stakeholders, " the self-described bullfighter argued.
Khalwale further stated that the stand-off between Knut and the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha was caused by the lack of consultations.
He called on the Ministry of Education to engage constructively with teachers as they had a better understanding of what is ailing the education sector.
Sossion has been engaged in a public spat with the Education CS over the CBC.
The ODM nominated MP argues that teachers were not consulted on the implementation of the new curriculum that the ministry maintains will be rolled out to its last detail.
Khalwale's pronouncements on the issue will come as a much-needed boost to Sossion.
The CBC is aimed at instilling practical skills in learners, a departure from the abstract learning of the 8-4-4 system.
