Leadership is either inborn or made.
For the 33-year-old millionnare Donald Mwendwa Nzau popularly known as General Mwendwa, leadership in him is inborn.
Nzau, a businessman from Kathiani in Machakos County unsuccessfully contested for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) position in Mitaboni ward in August 8, 2017 election.
The smart, intelligent, energetic, and ambitious youthful leader was orphaned at an age of 14.
Nzau says he has his people at heart hence ready to serve them despite the failure to clinch the Mitaboni seat.
"I believe that the people of Mitaboni Ward and Kathiani Constituency, in general, need a leader who understands their needs," Mwenda said.
He spoke to this writer at an exclusive interview in his office on Friday.
The Strathmore and Nairobi University graduate who hails from Kenol in Mitaboni ward said he wants to change how Kenyans view leadership."I want to change how Mitaboni and Kathiani people are led. I want to be a leader who is available all the time for his people to meet, involve public participation and all stakeholders in decision making and always be there to help my people," Nzau said.
The popular businessman said his focus is to help the youth by making them productive in the society.
Nzau said he assists young people get jobs, acquire technical skills through mentorship and financing.
"If we help the youth, we will help our society. If the youth get jobs and skills, they will definately equally help the elderly," he added.
On Wednesday, the Tala High School alumni leader launched various development projects in the ward.
The A student said he will offer full sponsorship to 20 unemployed young men and women from Mitaboni ward to train as drivers.
Nzau said the beneficiaries will be randomly selected from the 18 polling stations in the ward.
The trader said he was in consultations with Mitaboni Sacco to enable them get experience once they are through with the course.
He promised to help them to get jobs.
Nzau told bodaboda operators from the ward to form a sacco and save up to Sh1 million.
He said he will fund them once they heed to the advise.
"Let them form a Sacco and elect officials, open a bank account and I will boost that Sacco. After that, they can look for plots to buy and take loans to put up buildings to start receivieng rent. Incase of emergencies, they can take loans from the Sacco as members while guaranteeing each other," Nzau said.
On the allegations that he is a millionaire sponsoring people to tarnish the names of elected leaders, Nzau said: "Those are rumors, innuendos and shenanigans and my opponents trying to blame shadows after the "mwananchi" starts demanding his/her taxes be put to work. I am not sponsoring anything whatsoever, let them work and stop political somersaults. I have a democratic right to critic any issue that I feel is being mishandled as a citizen."
