Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has guaranteed non-local teachers in North Eastern of their safety as they discharge their professional duties.
Duale wants the non-locals teachers to take up their appointment by the Teachers Service Commission saying the region is safe.
Speaking when he opened new administration block at the Yathrib Girls in Garissa on Monday, Duale said the government has beefed up security in North Eastern.
He stated that non-local teachers should not be threatened by terror elements and insecurity in discharging their noble work.
"The government has put in place measures to stop terror attacks in North Eastern and non-local teachers should be free to come and teach our children," he said.
Duale said the national government is working closely with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and unions to ensure the safety of tutors in the region and other parts of the country.
Duale observed education standards in North Eastern are dwindling because of security threats.
"Over the past years our performance has not been good because of the security threats but the government is working on that,’' he said.
Duale asked leaders in North Eastern to equally champion education.
The Garissa MP opened a new administration block and issued new desks to students.
Duale said the new classrooms were funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
In the past years, non-local teachers have been declining to go and teach in North Eastern primary and secondary schools over insecurity threat by Al-Shabaab militants.
