Kibera MP Ken Okoth has hit out at Nairobi governor Mike Sonko over his decision to run Nairobi county affairs from his Mua Hills home in Machakos.
Okoth says that Sonko’s move is against the constitution and he should return to City Hall.
The MP says that while Sonko might have concerns over his security, conducting the county's affairs in another county is constitutionally wrong.
Speaking to journalists in Kibera on Tuesday, the MP asked Governor Sonko to move back to Nairobi in respect of the law.
“I am not sure whether it is true that he is running county affairs in Machakos but if that is the case, then he needs to immediately return to City Hall,” he said.
The MP said that City Hall is the gazetted Nairobi county headquarters and not Machakos.
Okoth said that the governor should address his security threats with relevant agencies and give Nairobians chance to access him.
Governor Sonko has maintained that he will not set foot at City Hall unless the place is ‘cleaned’.
The flamboyant governor claims that he is not safe operating from City Hall.
Last week, Nairobi MCAs gave Sonko 14 days to return to City Hall or face an impeachment.
Sonko moved from his City Hall office in May to his Mua home in Machakos over security threats.
The governor moved after part of his security was allegedly withdrawn by the national government.
