Giving an explanation as to why he declined the offer, Abdikadir revealed that he turned down the appointment purely on personal grounds and concern for his young family, a thing that the president readily accepted as a genuine reason.

“I courteously declined the ambassadorial position solely on personal grounds and concern for my young family. It was a very painful decision to make especially given the fact that my dedication to service of his wonderful country and the high respect I have for the presidency,” Abdikadir disclosed during a television interview.

The former MP Abdikadir hit the headlines in 2013 when he publicly announced his popular exit from the political arena.

He said that he needed a rest from active public service.

From 2013, he has served as the legal adviser to retired President Mwai Kibaki and is also still serving at the same capacity in President Kenyatta's regime.
