Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has won a petition challenging his re-election at the Supreme Court.

In its ruling on Friday, the court declared that the governor was validly elected on August 8, 2017.

Mutua moved to the highest court of the land in June, after the appellate court annulled his re-election.

This was in favor of former Kathiani lawmaker Wavinya Ndeti.

The petition was filed by Ndeti, his main rival, who appeared second in the election.

The ruling means that Mutua will remain at the helm of the county for the remaining portion of his term as the case cannot be challenged any further.
