The visit was in the spirit of understanding the milestones achieved since the inception of devolution and perhaps borrowing best practices from Mombasa.

Twaha, a first-time Jubilee governor, got a perspective on how county functions and services reach the 'mwananchi' at the grassroot level.

Pleased with the unit, the governor further commended the great strides that made by Governor Hassan Joho's Mombasa County in ensuring progressive development while having people's need at heart.

This year's version of the Mombasa Agriculture Society of Kenya (ASK) International Show was officially opened on Thursday.

The five-day event that kicked-off on August 29, was opened by Cabinet Secretary, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation Mwangi Kiunjuri, on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president was expected to open the annual event in the company of Governor Ali Hassan Joho, but failed to attend following the visit by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May at State House, the first State Visit by a British PM in 30 years.

In a statement read by his Deputy William Kingi, Joho encouraged youth and farmers to organise in cooperatives to promote self-employment and protect those at risk of drugs, crime and violent extremism.

"Through the mainstreaming of our social protection strategy together with partners like UNICEF, we want to ensure that anticipated growth is inclusive. We want to make sure no one is left behind," he said.
