The Englishman says that those who stay in glass houses should not throw stones.
This is literally because the same stone throwers can find their houses being the recipient of those very stones.
In a deeper meaning, the old adage simply advises us to understand our situations and circumstances first, before jumping into action.
Similarly, couples who live together with their tender-aged kids in single town rooms should 'understand their situation', and avoid some things especially when they are together with their children within.
We list them below but not before noting that it is not the wish of such couples to live that way. The prevailing economic climate of any society dictates the decisions that its members have to take.
1. Sex: This should be a no-go-zone when kids are around. It is not wise to get down to a marathon sex race at the wee hours of the night on a rickety bed assuming that kids are dead asleep. Some especially boys are very mischievous and can pretend to be asleep when awake.
You can opt for a time when kids are away in school or out playing to get intimate with your partner. Why do you think some urban kids get exposed to sex early before they hit the age of 10?
2. Irresponsible drug uptake: Some couples, especially men, smoke cigarettes and some other hard stuff ignoring the kids' presence. Others storm the small rooms drunk like a skunk and engage in all forms of theatrics in front of kids. Not fair or is it?
3. Housing relatives: Relatives and others who come to 'camp' in town single rooms should not be encouraged to stay. A single room housing a couple and their school-going kids literally has no space left to accommodate more people.
The couples are left with no privacy while children have to sleep squeezed. The couple is also left with no space to enjoy sex especially if the visitor is the kinds that come to town to wait for jobs inside the house. They never vacate their seats apart from when attending to a call of nature or taking a shower.
