A number of top Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials were on Thursday treated to shock after being hit with sudden suspensions and others demoted.
The group of top-level managers was notified of their misfortunes on Wednesday evening and would come face to face with the reality of the situation on Thursday morning.
Some of them would only learn of their suspensions and demotions upon arriving at the service's headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday, with KWS linking the changes to an ongoing probe.
KWS Corporate Communications and Service Spokesman Ngugi Gechaga said that the group that has been suspended will remain away due to ongoing investigations in their offices.
"There are various investigations taking place in the departments headed by these senior officers that would be compromised by their continued presence in the office,” Gechaga told the Nation.
Those suspended include four senior managers who have since handed over to interim holders of the office, in changes that were signed by new Director General (Brig) John Waweru.
Head of Supply Chain Management Christopher Oludhe and Deputy Director of Security Robert Muasya said that they learnt of their suspensions while on official duties in Meru.
The duo was part of the group that were notified of their fate through a memo.
