Lay has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare a six month grace period for everyone holding stolen wealth, to return it to the government.

She proposed people who have not declared their taxes, evaded duty or have obtained wealth through corruption, to be given six months to return it to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

"President Kenyatta, declare a 6 months grace period for everyone to return to KRA what they have stolen through undeclared taxes, evading duty and corrupt deals," she tweeted on Friday.

The former legislator proposed that those who will fail to adhere to the directive, to be pursued by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), be arrested and charged.

"After the 6 months DCI can take action. Let’s all fight for our nation, join the war against corruption," Lay urged.

Her remarks came moments after Uhuru promised European Union (EU) envoys that he will continue spearheading the war on corruption and vowed to stop at nothing.

"On the fight against corruption, I am focused. I know there could be a lot of politics about it, but I want to assure you that it will be noisy and messy. We just have to win," the President said on Friday during a function at the State House, Nairobi.
