Kenyans celebrate the day on December 12, in honour of the country's founding fathers who put their lives at risk to liberate the country and gain independence in 1964.

"As we mark the 55th Jamhuri Day Celebrations, I wish to join fellow Kenyans to honor our forefathers who gave their lives for our liberty to get our independence," said Jumwa on Wednesday morning.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to preside over the celebrations flanked by his Deputy William Ruto, cabinet secretaries, government officials alongside other leaders at the national level.

The event is usually held at the County level as well, led by governors and county commissioners.

"My message to all Malindi constituents and the country at large is to protect our great heritage that we have and strive to foster unity among our people in order to have a peaceful and prosperous nation," said Jumwa.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has also wished Kenyans goodwill message ahead of the fete.
