Two middle-aged men died on Saturday morning after they were involved in an accident at Mwanyani area near Machakos Girls High School along Machakos-Kitui highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the two who were on a motorbike were trying overtaking a school bus but rammed into an oncoming matatu. They died on the spot.
"The two guys were trying to overtake a schools bus but blindly rammed into an oncoming matatu. ," Alex Muindi recounted.
"That place is very narrow and dangerous because it is slippery especially after it drizzles. That's one of the most dangerous roads... It's a black spot.," he added.
Confirming the incident, Machakos County Police boss Samuel Mukinda urged bodaboda operators and all road users to be extra careful especially when trying to overtake.
"We urge everyone to observe all the traffic rules and regulations. Let's avoid overtaking blindly," he urged.
He emphasized that all the bodaboda operators should also wear protective gear to reduce the impact and injuries when one is involved in an accident.
"It's unfortunate that the two guys were not wearing any protective gear. Helmets and other gears would have protected them from this fatal accident," he said.
Machakos bodaboda chairman, Paul Musembi who was also present said that all the operators should be extra careful when using the roads.
"Please use the roads well especially during this rainy season. Anything can happen, so put on the protective gear."
