National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has criticized some universities and colleges for offering courses that do not add value or benefit graduates.
Speaking at Tumaini Boys secondary school in Garissa on Monday, Duale asked universities, colleges and technical institutions to offer marketable courses to their students.
He observed that some university graduates are wasting time and money doing irrelevant courses.
“We need to be honest with our sons and daughters and tell them the truth, that some of the courses they are studying will never get them jobs,” the Garissa legislator said.
According to Duale, courses like political science should be abolished from universities curriculum.
“I have always asked myself the relevance of one studying a course in political science when all we know that everyone can ask for votes and get elected,” Duale added.
The Garissa MP urged students to go for top marketable courses in universities and technical institutions.
Last month, the Commission for University Education (CUE) in a report listed 133 courses offered by public and private universities which it termed as 'useless'.
The commission said that students are wasting time studying irrelevant courses.
The report caused panic among university students in the country.
Meanwhile, Duale has urged university and college graduates not to wait for white collar jobs.
He wants graduates to be open-minded and venture into entrepreneurship instead of waiting for white collar jobs.
