A man accused of defiling her granddaughter was on Thursday arraigned before a Nakuru court to face the charges.

Thomas Lokohe is alleged to have committed the crime in Njoro sub-county last year, deliberately attempting to infect the girl with HIV virus in the process.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omindo, the minor, who is now seven years old, told the court that the suspect threatened to kill her if she reported him.

The class one pupil said Lokohe threatened to slit her throat if she dared tell anyone what he had done to her, reports the Standard.

She was later taken to Njoro sub-county hospital for medical attention and the matter reported at the Njoro Police Station.

Apart from the defilement charge, the suspect was also charged with attempting to infect his granddaughter with the virus.

The accused was released on a Sh500, 000 bond, with the case set to for a mention on October 11 and heard on November  15, 2018.
