The local administrator blamed Kenya Wild Life Service (KWS) officials of laxity in a dressing the menace even after receiving complains from locals."

I've sought intervention from KWS officials in vain. I think they are not keen on addressing the issue because the last time they were here was in 2017 when a similar attack was reported," he said.

Martin Ogenga, who lost his entire livestock to the attack, narrated how he woke up  in the morning and found all his six cows dead with fresh wounds.

He raised concern on mtheir safety as hippos mostly raid between 7:00pm and 5:00am when there's little activity around the lake.

He adds: “they are attacking homesteads in packs, maiming and killing the animals, our villageneeds to be protected and we are asking the Kenya Wildlife Services to intervene.”

KWS South Nyanza regional coordinator Grace Wendoti said they have not received any report on the incident.
