Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and Governor Ali Korane have pledged to rally other leaders to champion development and unity among the Somali community in Northern Kenya.
During a meeting at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Wednesday, Duale and Korane said that the region needs to remain united to realize its development agenda.
The two leaders noted that the North Eastern region has a lot of resources that if harnessed will improve the locals living standards.
The two Garissa politicians noted that Garissa and the large North Eastern is a big beneficiary of devolution.
The Garissa lawmaker and Governor Korane vowed to champion and protect devolution.
They also vowed to push for the regions unity especially among various clans.
In the meeting at Duale’s office, the two leaders also pledged to work with relevant agencies in ensuring the region's security.
They said that insecurity has for many years been an obstacle to the region's development.
“We have agreed to push for development in our county and unity of our people,” the MP said in a statement.
The two leaders urged elected leaders in Garissa ad North Eastern to focus on service delivery and shun premature 2022 campaigns.
There had been claims that Duale and Korane had fallen-out over 2022 supremacy battles.
The two leaders, however, maintain that they are in good working terms and keen on pushing for the county’s development agenda.
