Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir's seat could be under threat in 2022 following the role he played for Jubilee party in Kibra by-election, Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has warned.
Korir was the chief agent for the Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga who lost by a wide margin to ODM's Imran Okoth on Thursday.
Owino, a first-time legislator, now says ODM will face Korir head-on, cognizant to the fact that Lang'ata has been an ODM stronghold until 2017.
"After the bedroom we now want Baba’s sitting room which is Lang’ata constituency," declared Owino in a tweet.
ODM lost the seat in 2017 to Korir despite having controlled the region for over a decade. Opposition leader Raila Odinga was a long time serving MP of Lang'ata.
Owino's sentiments come hours after Raila's candidate Imran Okoth was declared the winner of closely contested Kibra by-election on Thursday.
Raila first contested in 1997 where he emerged third but accused retired President Daniel Moi of rigging elections. He later joined forces with Moi.
In 2007, 2013, 2017, the ODM leader disputed victories of Mwai Kibaki and President Uhuru Kenyatta respectively citing rigging claims.
The opposition leader is currently working with President Uhuru Kenyatta following the controversial 2017 polls that saw Uhuru's victory nullified.
On Thursday, Bernard Okoth Imran won the Kibra by-election in which Deputy President William Ruto had backed former footballer McDonald Mariga.
"After the election, we should go back to our past life and strengthen our friendship. I will offer you maximum support," Mariga said.
