With about three more years to the next general elections in 2022, politics is at its peak as politicians and political lovers engage in endless debates about various positions, favourite candidates and even possible results.
After the presidential race which is always competitive and most likely attracts almost all the attention, gubernatorial races across the 47 counties are the next seats to attract hot political contests.
In Rift Valley, these three senators have been rumoured to be eying the gubernatorial seats and are likely to clinch the seats following their prowess in the dirty game of Kenyan politics.
Kipchumba Murkomen
He is the current Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet. The outspoken lawmaker is definitely one of the best politicians in the country. Murkomen is serving his second term as the senator and may opt to contest for the county’s top seat in 2022. Following his popularity in political fields, Murkomen will easily be the next Elgeyo Marakwet governor if he decides to vie for it.
Aaron Cheruiyot
The youngest senator is representing Kericho county in the current house. Cheruiyot is said to be eying to succeed Prof. Paul Chepkwony who is serving his second term as the Kericho governor. However, Cheruiyot will likely face strong opposition from other aspirants eying the seat among them Eng Fred Kirui and Kericho based tycoon Richard Langat who lost in 2017 Jubilee party preliminaries.
Samson Cherargei.
The Nandi senator has not at any point expressed his interest in the gubernatorial seat but his actions and political opinions within the county indicates that the youthful lawyer might face the current governor in 2022. This will be arguably the hottest political contest in the Rift Valley as governor Stephen Sang is also smart in politics.
