The 2022 succession politics continues to take shape across the political divide.
Politicians eyeing for top seats are already lobbying ahead of the much-awaited 2022 general election.
In Garissa, the script is similar as some politicians have openly hinted on going for top seats in the 2022 polls.
The governor and senator seats are among seats being eyed by top politicians.
As 2022 succession take center stage here are three politicians likely to battle out for the Garissa gubernatorial seat:
1. Aden Duale
The National Assembly Leader of Majority is among vocal politicians in Garissa expected to gun for the governor's.
A close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, Duale could easily contest and win the governor seat in 2022.
The Garissa Township MP has been quoted saying that locals want him to contest for a bigger seat.
Duale is, however, yet to make it clear on whether he will be vying for a top seat in 2022.
2. Farah Maalim
The former Lagdera MP is also among veteran politicians in Garissa.
The former National Assembly Deputy speaker has remained vocal despite being in the political cold.
In 2017 polls he lost a bid to unseat Garissa MP Aden Duale.
Maalim is likely to contest a higher seat in the upcoming 2022 polls.
The Wiper Party deputy leader is currently hosting the ‘Speakers Gallery’ show on a local TV station.
3. Nathif Jama
He is the former Garissa governor.
Jama lost re-election in the August 8, 2017 general election to Ali Bunow Korane.
The Wiper Party politician is likely to contest the governor seat in the 2022 polls.
4. Sophia Abdi Noor
The Ijara MP is among experienced female politicians in Garissa.
She could contest for the governor seat in 2022 owing to her rising popularity.
Noor has, however, not hinted on whether she will be contesting the top seat.
Governor Ali Korane is expected to defend his seat in the forthcoming 2022 election.
