For close to ten minutes, Governor John Nyagarama's wife, Naomi Nyagarama struggled to address an agitated crowd at her Bosamaro backyard in a funeral that was attended by several county leaders.
Trouble started when Borabu MP Ben Momanyi set the bar high when he gave Sh20, 000 to the family of Bosamaro MCA Charles Keganda following the death of Allan Keganda, his son.
Afterwards, other MPs among them Senator Okong'o Mogeni, Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) gave a standard Sh10,000 as part of their eulogy.
But when Mrs Nyagarama stood on behalf of the governor, her Sh5,000 was met with the wrath of locals even as she struggled to vindicate her decision but in vain.
"We have been standing with this family ever since we heard about the tragedy. The Governor has been supporting so there is nothing wrong with this," she said as locals continued heckling her.
However, the situation was salvaged by minister of Health in the county Douglas Bosire who topped another Sh6,000 to total the governor's contributions to Sh11,000.
Speaker Moffat Teya called for unity within then county leadership, arguing that the county would continue lagging behind if the leadership fails to work in harmony.
"We must work together as a team. It's unity of purpose that can define our future as a county. We need to embrace each other for the sake of unity and development," he said.
Allan, who was a student and the university of Nairobi, died a week ago at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, few hours after complaining of fatigue.
