The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were released today (Monday) by Education CS Amina Mohammed.
Speaking during the event which was held at the Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa, Amina revealed that Kiambu County registered the fifth highest number of candidates countrywide.
The county registered 42,000 candidates who successfully sat for their KCPE exam this year. Nairobi and Nakuru were in first and second position respectively, registering more than 50,000 candidates.
Amina noted that the number of female candidates has been increasing gradually across the country.
“An analysis of the gender trend in candidates this year indicates that the number of girls has consistently been higher than that of boys. 23 out of the 47 counties registered more female candidates compared to male,” said Amina.
Out of the 1,052,364 candidates who sat the exam this year, 527,294 (50.1%) were make while 524, 070 (49.9%) were female students.
Overall, female candidates performed better in languages, while their male candidates outshined them in Religious Studies, Science and Mathematics.
The CS also announced that there will be a 100 per cent transition to secondary school, as all KCPE candidates are guaranteed a form one slot.
She further congratulated the candidates for their hard work, noting that the results reflected their dedicated efforts.
“I congratulate the class of #KCPE2018 for demonstrating to all of us that hard work bears fruit and that true success is the culmination of honest and dedicated effort. We will guarantee 100% transition to secondary schools,” she tweeted.
