A new parliament has been formed in Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County.
The parliament referred to as youth parliament has been formed by youth in the area.
The aim of the parliament is to consistently look into and come up with measures to address various issues in the county, among them social accountability.
According the parliament’s speaker Enock Chiteri, they normally seat twice every month in various places.
“The parliament has helped in various interventions on matters to do with security and sensitizing members of the public on various issues such as public participation,” he said during one of the sittings held at the border of Ugunja and Gem constituencies over the weekend.
The sitting was attended by among others, Siaya County Chief Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Health Dorothy Owino.
She hailed the initiative saying it is a good move that will eventually help her health department in terms of improving service delivery to residents of Siaya County.
Mr Chiteri said that they are now working closely with various stake holders and relevant bodies to help reduce cases of drug and substance abuse, alcoholism among youth and teenage pregnancy.
He said that they are not affiliated to any politician or political party insisting that they are an independent entity.
