Differences between Migori Governor Okoth Obado and a section of ODM leaders in Nyanza were evident on Friday when a number of them failed to show up for his mother-in-law's burial ceremony.

Usually, leaders have often shown solidarity with their colleagues during such occasions but leading ODM leaders were nowhere to be seen in Migori.

Notably, only Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama and Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata attended the ceremony. Several MCAs also 'boycotted' the event.

Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo, Senator Ochillo Ayacko and all MPs among them Junet Mohamed, Paul Abuor and Mark Nyamita also snubbed the event.

"We must preach unity. For far too long, Nyanza people have been sidelined economically. I am however happy with the new approach following the handshake," Nyagarama said.

Mr Orata, who is holding brief for Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti, said Nyanza people should concentrate on development rather than politicking.

"Elections are over. We must now look for ways of uplifting our people economically. Let's all support the handshake," he said.

The deceased, Mama Eunita Awino, is the mother to Obado's wife Hellen Adhiambo. The Migori Governor is facing murder charges over the death of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno.

Also, EACC has been on his neck in recent months over alleged corruption. However, he has often blamed ODM for his predicaments, a move that has angered the party lieutenants from South Nyanza.
