An incomplete Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom whose construction has stalled has been transformed into a brothel by some unruly locals in Kericho County.
Construction of the Kabirer ECD centre in Sigowet stalled in 2014 after which the county abandoned the project leaving it unfenced and unused.
Consequently, some locals are now using it as a sex den, a picture that greets you immediately you arrive at the place, with bold 'Sure Condom' writing written in the wooden door.
Inside are scattered pieces of used condom packets, a demonstration of the immoral actions that happen inside the establishment that should be serving young learners.
Residents are now calling upon the county to return to the site and complete the construction so that it can serve its rightful purpose.
“The building has never been used. It lacks desks, blackboard and a toilet. It’s also not fenced. We are calling upon the county government to help us speed up the completion,” said Wesly Bor, a resident.
The residents have also expressed their readiness to team up and build a latrine for the institution, stating that the one that was built by the contractor is incomplete and dangerous.
“The contractor dug a latrine and left it gaping. We are yet be told of the way forward in this project,” said Rose Kirui, another resident.
The locals have raised an alarm that the abandonment of the school could also be the doing of some powerful individuals who want to privatize the facility.
