Road accidents claim many lives annually. Fortunately, drivers and pedestrians can avoid some of these fatalities. Here are four tips for driving safely at night:
1. Take a nap
In case you feel tired while driving, you should look for a safe place to park your car and take a nap for some minutes or two hours. Lack of sleep makes you drowsy and increases the chances of you causing an accident. A nap will refresh you.
2. Dim your dashboard and instrument panel lights
You should dim all the lights in your car because they can easily tamper with your forward vision.
Your headlights should also be dimmed when approaching other motorists to avoid blinding them.
3. Increase your following distance
The distance between you and the car you are following should be increased than it is usually the case during the day.
This will allow safe driving even in case of an emergency. You should make sure that distance appreciates the challenges drivers face at night.
4. Scan the road
Keeping your eyes in one direction or at one spot can be fatal. You are advised to scan the road as you drive at night.
This might save you from impending danger from other road users.
