Barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted that his favourite for 2022 race could shock many people, a section of Kalenjin leaders now want the president to reveal his candidate.
At Nyeri, a rather angry Uhuru scolded local leaders over 'loitering and politicking', adding that he will still play a role in 2022.
"Don't take my silence for granted. I will tell people what to do at the right time. My choice will shockany of you," Uhuru hinted a possibility of dropping his deputy.
For six years now, Uhuru has publicly backed Ruto for State House but the tone changed when he reconciled with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago on Sunday, the leaders insisted that Uhuru should make his choice open.
"We beg the president to come out and tell us the name of his preferred candidate. This is crucial for all of us.
"There is no harm in telling us the choice. We shall plan how to back that candidate," he said amid laughter from his colleagues.
Present in the Kericho meeting were Governor Paul Chepkwony, Senator Aaron Cheruiyout and dozens of MPs from Rift Valley.
A fortnight ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta refused to openly back Ruto even as the leaders piled pressure at him in Kapsabet.
