Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has faulted measures put in place to protect the controversial housing fund.
According to Karua, the laws put in place will not protect taxpayers money but will instead encourage misappropriation.
This comes after government through Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary (CS) James Macharia, issued a directive to all employers, that they should start deducting 1.5% house levies from their employees salaries starting May this year.
"Proposed penalty for misappropriation of housing fund, no doubt encourages misappropriation," she tweeted.
According to the law, an individual found guilty of misappropriating the said fund will be liable to a jail term of two years, a fine of Sh 10,000, or both.
"..A person who misappropriates any funds or assets of the Housing Fund, or assists or causes any person to misappropriate or apply the funds otherwise than in the manner provided in these Regulations, commits an offence and shall, upon conviction be liable to imprisonment for a term of two years or to a fine not exceeding ten thousands or to both," the regulation reads in-part.
She has called on CS Macharia and the Office of Attorney General to put strict measures to protect the fund.
